Come on feel
the noise!
Great surround without all the wiring
As far as first impressions go, the HTS8100 rates on the high side, for its sleek black yet edgy feel and compact size make it quite the looker. The sliding DVD glass cover and minimalistic LED complement your Flat TV, making it your pads’ “piece de resistance”. Setting up this virtual integrated home theater proved to be sheer joy, with just a few elementary plugs. All wide-eyed, we set up the sound as per specified parameters, basically in terms of where you are in the room, slipped on Pulse, copper vapor lasers lit up, Gilmour strummed, we closed our eyes and we were...there, almost.
You’re surrounded!
The detailing was excellent, as was the clarity of the sound especially from the front end, and one must admit Philips’ patented Ambisound technology, which delivers full 5.1 surround, utilizing audio speakers, amps and a DVD/CD player contained within a 13 cm-thin box, ensures a wider sweet spot. For sure the EISA award-winning HTS8100 does a much better job than other initiators like XVOX and Denon, but does it really ensure overpowering 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound? Is it the end of the ‘rear right, center, front left’ world as we know it? Maybe not quite yet.
