Forget those long-trodden Volvo prejudices about old people with beards and cardigans behind the wheel. This is 2007 and Volvo has taken a whole new approach. Out are the dog guards and in are sexy new cars like this C70.
The roof splits in three parts, and once folded, you can press a button in the boot that cleverly allows you to access your luggage. While the interior is dull, it does redeem itself with the ‘floating’ center console, housing the stereo.
The C70 T5 is meant to be the sportiest model in the range. Yet, despite the sporty agenda, the performance from its 2.5-liter engine is more like that of a mobility scooter. The heavy roof is much to blame for this lack in acceleration, but to be honest we’re glad it isn’t any faster because the soft body wobbles and sways over bumpy roads. It’s what big car afficionados call scuttle shake, and this C70 has a degree in it.
Love Grunting engine noise. Intelligent roof.
Hate Body shake. Weak performance.
We say Finally, a Volvo with no room for the dog. Shame about the scuttle shake.
