WHAT'S THE CONCEPT ?
It’s the new thing in tinsel town, the everyman’s perspective of events and the implications thereof. Vantage point follows different peoples’ perspective of the same 15 minutes prior to and immediately after an assassination attempt. Think ever-switched-on camcorders and PDAs and the world and events around it are yours for the taking. At a price, of course.
WHAT'S LIKE ?
Nearly washed out journeyman Secret Service agent Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) is assigned to protect the President Ashton (William Hurt) at a landmark summit on the global war on terror. Ashton is shot moments after his arrival, and chaos soon ensues. Add in Forest Whitaker, who plays an American tourist video-taping the historic event, bulldog TV news producer Rex (Sigourney Weaver) and a few misplaced ideals, and the pace is set.
WORTH WATCHING ?
By repeatedly replaying events on fast forward and rewind, from the rotating perspective or vantage point of eight unique protagonists, Vantage Point moves at a furious, exciting pace. And in the masterful hands of Pete Travis, who brings his Rashomon narrative style to a climax here, you are continuously made to feel like a rearranged part of a puzzle. |
